Masureel traces its roots to a family-run weaving mill in Hulste, Belgium, established at the start of the 20th century, which moved into textile finishing and carpet and fabric dyeing from 1937.

Masureel International was founded in the 1980s by Guy Verstraete, and the company still designs and produces its wallcovering collections entirely in-house, from design to production.

In September 2024, Masureel's nonwoven printed wallcoverings earned IMO certification for fire and toxicity performance, and its materials are manufactured PVC-free and poly-olefin free.
